Fabijan Kutić: Discovering the Possible in Science
"It is precisely when we face the "impossible" that we truly discover our potential." — Fabijan Kutić, Molecular Biology student at the Faculty of Science, University of Zagreb
My Story
Hello everyone! My name is Fabijan Kutić. I grew up in Fažana, a small coastal town facing the Brijuni National Park.
My journey into the natural sciences has been long and rewarding—a path that would have been impossible without the unwavering support of my family, friends, mentors, and colleagues.
This journey began toward the end of elementary school, just as we started our first formal science courses. At first glance, these subjects seemed significantly more daunting than my other classes. However, during my time at the Juraj Dobrila Gymnasium and Vocational School in Pazin, where I recently completed the Science and Mathematics program, I was constantly encouraged and guided toward various competitions and projects.
With the help of both experienced professors and enthusiastic classmates, I reached milestones that only months prior had seemed impossible. There were school competitions I hadn't even intended to enter, yet I ultimately advanced to the national level.
In my experience, achieving anything of significance—from grasping a complex classroom concept to winning a competition—is always a collaborative process. I cannot overstate the role my mentors played in envisioning the "unimaginable" for me. They believed in my potential when I doubted it myself and pushed me toward challenges I thought were out of reach. I believe it is precisely when we face what we once deemed impossible that we gain true insight into what we are actually capable of.
I have always been drawn to a diverse range of disciplines, from philosophy to programming. However, throughout high school, my attention kept returning to Chemistry. By the start of my senior year, as we began studying genetics, my interests expanded toward Biology. Now that I have enrolled in the Molecular Biology program at the Faculty of Science in Zagreb, I see many new challenges ahead, and I look forward to the next three years with great anticipation.
Fabijan
